West End Treat
Posted: 15th May 2018Children got a unique opportunity to watch the dress rehearsal of a West End show.
A group of 60 Year 4 pupils from Cooks Spinney Primary Academy were invited by Disney to get a behind the scenes look at the Lion King.
The opportunity came as the year group studies Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Tracy Pope, Year 4 teacher, said: “The opportunity could not have come at a better time as pupils have been writing play scripts with the inspiration of William Shakespeare in their literacy lessons.
“Parents were very excited their children were getting the opportunity to go to the theatre in London. During the show, actors were running down the aisles and our children were amazed. For many, it was their first theatre experience.
“The whole day of travelling to London, theatre and extended school day were experiences to last forever. As part of BMAT, these amazing opportunities are shared among our schools.”
The free trip to the Lyceum Theatre in London was made possible as BMAT director of performing arts Cristin Casey is a member of the Teachers Advisory Board at the Disney Theatrical Group.
