Children rock out to the Beatles
Posted: 23rd April 2019Our school hall was turned into a concert hall when children got their first experience of a live gig.
Pupils and teachers threw out the rule book and rocked out to an hour-long concert by tribute act Imagine…The Beatles.
Year 2 pupils at Cooks Spinney Primary Academy have been researching The Beatles as part of their history lessons. With each new topic being celebrated with a Wow day, teachers decided seeing the music act for real would be the best way to compound their learning.
Headteacher Neil Stirrat said: “A lot of our children have never seen a live band before, so it was really nice for them to experience. It was really clever of our teachers to think to approach a band in this way. This is a life experience for our pupils
“Year 2 had learnt the songs and so could join in with the singing. They had dressed as rock stars for the day, so really got into the role, along with their teachers.
“It was a really nice way to start the day. We hope to make this a yearly event to link with what they are learning in class. Part of the music curriculum states pupils should listen to music and critique it and what better way to do that.
“They had a brilliant time.”
