Life skills before secondary school
Posted: 24th April 2019Safety online, on the roads and in the event of a fire has been taught to children on the verge of gaining new independence.
Year 6 pupils at Cooks Spinney Primary Academy will move on to secondary school in September and with it gain the increased responsibility of taking care of themselves.
In preparation, they completed the Crucial Crew programme with Safer Harlow Partnership.
Headteacher Neil Stirrat said: “Our pupils take part in this every year. For Year 6, this forms part of their transition to secondary school when they will use busy roads on their own.
“During the break in workshops, a man starts talking to the pupils and asks their personal information. Pupils fall for it every year, but it opens their eyes to the dangers around them. It is a vital lesson for children, particularly at this age.”
The day saw pupils learn from the police, ambulance service and fire and rescue service.
