Books come to life on Dahl day
Posted: 16th October 2019The books of Roald Dahl came to life as children celebrated his work.
Pupils at Cooks Spinney Primary Academy turned their attentions to the storyteller’s tales as they marked Roald Dahl Day.
After an assembly to hear more about Roald Dahl, pupils worked with West End in Schools to act out parts of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The Bringing Books to Life sessions saw pupils take part in dance workshops to communicate various sections of the story.
Magdalena Dackombe, Year 6 teacher and literacy co-ordinator, said: “The whole idea of the day to bring Roald Dahl’s books to life was to give children different perspectives of the stories and enable them to consider different points of views presented in the books. The most important thing is for children to get inside the heads of the characters, to explore the books and to get excited about reading them. The day helped to open their minds a bit more.
“As soon as they came back from the workshops, the children were doing their routines during their breaks and lunchtimes. It was a lot of fun for them.”
Pupils also took part in national competition Matilda’s New Classmate where they had to draw and describe a new character.
